Congratulations Karen Roberts
Congratulations to our very own Karen Roberts who has this week won a Lotto Volunteers Award - Supporting Local Sport Makers in conjunction with Sport New Zealand.
Karen was nominated by us for the awesome work she does coordinating the Junior programme, which has seen our junior members increase from 26 in 2014 to now 44!
Karen is one of 15 volunteers recognised across the Bay of Plenty across all sports...keep an eye on the Sport Bay of Plenty website for more info and a photo. Well done Karen!
League Results - Cumulative Points as at 30 June 2016
Its tight at the top! First time ever we have had a 4-way tie at the top of the Leaderboard...
Neeley Log
A team of 12 Mount players made a determined trip over the hill to challenge Putaruru for the Neeley Log. Unfortunately this time we couldnt wrestle it from them, going down 13-5. Still, it was a great team event with all grades supporting and cheering each other on. Thanks to the players that made themselves available for the event.
Superchamps (Eliminations) Weekend 29-31 July
Good luck to all the teams that have entered for the BOP Superchamps Teams event. We have players entered across 6 teams which is a great effort.
Winter Interclub - Starts 18th July
Entries are in for the Winter Interclub round which starts on the 18th July, if you are keen to play and have not entered a team contact Murray Payne (027 574 4460) or Rebecca Amon 021 267 8423).
Note the Interclub fees we pay to Squash BOP have increased this term to $150/team, which is payable to Matt in the office (over the bar, via internet banking, or drop in to see him).
We recommend $25 per player for the 11 week competition, any additional fees (if more than 6 players) goes to the cost of balls, lights, power etc.
Please see below the communication from Squash BOP....
Interclub fees have not been reviewed (or increased!) for at least 11 years. At the current rates of $100 per team over 11 weeks, this represents a cost per game of just over $2 per player per game. We acknowledge how important a robust interclub competition is to Squash BOP, but also acknowledge that the per game cost is considerably less than the cost of other organised competitive squash e.g. tournaments. We also acknowledge that tournaments offer different propositions to our stakeholder clubs who have alternative revenue opportunities through bar and food sales. Squash BOP does not currently have such alternative revenue streams, but we are working very actively on this.
After much review we have identified the need to increase interclub fees, and have decided to increase this to $150 per team, which equates to $3.40 per player per game. We acknowledge that most clubs pass this cost onto your participating interclub members and we will be discussing this in more detail at the upcoming sector meetings, as part of our commitment to improved communication and transparency.
